About us.
Brendan Waites is an accomplished Australian landscape photographer whose work captures the raw light and vast textures of Victoria’s coastlines, outback regions, the high country and river lands.. With years spent exploring and documenting the state’s diverse environments, Brendan has built a strong portfolio that balances technical mastery with an instinctive eye for composition and mood. His images demonstrate a deep understanding of weather, seasonality and the fleeting moments that elevate a scene — from dramatic storm fronts over Wilsons Promontory to the quiet, pastel dawns on the Great Ocean Road.
As a guide and instructor, Brendan combines practical photographic instruction with genuine local knowledge. He plans tours around optimal light and conditions, knows the best access points and timing and vantage points, and can read changing weather to position clients for the shot. He’s patient and adaptive on location, offering personalised tuition — from camera settings and filters to long-exposure technique and landscape storytelling — so both beginners and experienced shooters come away with better images and greater confidence.
Beyond technique, Brendan creates an experience: thoughtful itineraries, small group sizes for relaxed learning, and a warm, encouraging teaching style that turns long days in the field into memorable adventures. His familiarity with Victoria’s seasons, flora and fauna means participants not only photograph iconic sites but also discover quieter, off-the-beaten-track scenes that make each tour unique. For anyone wanting an unforgettable photography journey in Victoria, Brendan offers the combination of expertise, local insight and camaraderie that delivers great photos and great memories.
Brendan has been instructing photography since 1995 and has run tours in multiple locations including The Great Ocean Road, Victoria’s High Country, The Mallee regions, Tasmania, Queensland and South Australia. He is also an instructor at The Bright Festival of Photography (BFOP) - Australia’s worls famous photography festival held in October annually.
